PARISH MERGER UPDATE
CHRIST THE REDEEMER PARISH

Dear Parishioners,

You can read the progress of our merger in the notes that follow.  Our various committees have completed their checklists and submitted to the Diocese the first week of May.  This will be followed by a visit from the Diocesan Merger Review Committee in late August.  If we have done our job properly, we can expect the issuance of the Bishop’s decree establishing our new parish some time this September/October.

I ask for your prayers for the successful coming-together of our respective parish families.  Each of us, in our attitudes and in our actions, plays a vital role in building the new Christ the Redeemer Parish family.

Parish Life Committee:
We’re planning a Fall Festival for Saturday, September 25, 2010.  We have eight people representing each parish for the Fall Festival Committee.  It will be a simple day of food and family fun for everyone.  Sally Rensch is working with the Liturgy and Ministry committees to plan for the liturgical aspects of the Mass of Dedication for our new parish.  The event is promising to be a most impressive and joyous celebration.  Following the Mass of Dedication there is expected to be a parish social celebrating the birth of our new parish community.

Staffing:
The staffing has been determined and employees will start in their positions when the newly merged parish has formed.

Finance Committee:
The committee has completed the proposed budget and it has been approved.  Mike Zarrella, Core Team representative and three parish representatives met with the Diocesan Finance office; Larry Reader from Temporality and Ed Locasale from the Finance Office.

Facilities Committee:
We are in the process of forming a Buildings & Grounds Committee from all three parishes to help in maintaining all of the facilities.  The Feed the Need supplies have been moved from Assumption’s Rectory to the hall to accommodate all records and files from all three parishes.

Liturgy and Ministry Committee:
Meetings have been scheduled to meet with all liturgical ministers for a “Meet and Greet” evening.  We’re looking forward to forming new ministers from all three parish ministries.

Religious Education:
Religious Education programs were combined last year with great success.  We currently have over 500 children registered for religious ed for this school year.
Vacation Bible School is held for one week in August every year.  Last week we had almost 200 children for VBS who thoroughly enjoyed the week.

Mass Schedule:
The home site will be Assumption Church where main liturgical functions will be celebrated (Easter Triduum, Christmas Eve, Confirmation, First Holy Communion).  Daily mass will be celebrated at Assumption Church 7:30am.
Weekend Mass Schedule:

Assumption Church   Saturday 4:00pm
    Sunday 9:00am & 11:00am
St. Anthony Church:   Sunday 8:00am
(To be reviewed after merger by the newly formed parish and financial councils within 6 months of merger.)

Sacred Heart:    Sunday 10:00am

Let us pray for our three parishes as we merge together as the new Parish of Christ the Redeemer, may our new foundation be built on a strong faith in God and a true sense of family and community.

God Bless,
Fr. Tom
