Today’s gospel teaches “love” is the result of our “giving”. The selfless giving of spouses, parents and children for one another is not only the sign of a happy and holy family. Selfless giving is the gift and the challenge of family life.

A mother’s presence can bring peace to a frightened child just like Jesus brought peace to the disciples in today’s gospel. As bread and wine bring us Christ’s presence in the Eucharist, mothers are the instruments of Christ’s presence in the home.
